Home Time :-(

Well our 2 weeks is up :-( Time to head back to the freezing cold UK! By now we'll be on the plane, we have our fingers crossed for another upgrade to business class.

It's been A-W-E-S-O-M-E!! This is the official word of the holiday, used many times by many Americans.

Quantum of Solace Film Review

Another gritty follow-up film to Casino Royale. If you didn't see Royale you maybe a bit lost, we saw it and were still a bit confused as to what was going on! Daniel Craig is still a good Bond and there are loads of action sequences, just the weak Bond Girl and rather puny Bill-Gates-a-Like bady let the side down.

It's gone all Christmassy in Florida!

Well I think we're about 2 weeks from Thanksgiving, and all of a sudden the Christmas decorations seem to have gone up overnight. We did our 2nd day at Sea World today and it was completely transformed from a few days ago and we're not just talking the odd bit of tinsel! This is the whole park covered in lights and musical fountains in the lake. Polar Express also opened and we got to go to the North Pole to see Santa, even though its November and 85° outside! The Shamu show had also changed into the Christmas Miracles show!

3rd Day Universal

After a restful day mooching around yesterday, today we used up our 3rd day at Universal. We cut between the 2 parks to do our favourite rides, and also caught a couple we missed the first time including E.T. and Jaws. It was really hot and muggy today, which is why we look a bit droopy!

After a morning at the parks, we head for lunch, then onto a spot of mini-golf, as even though its very hot its a bit overcast.

We were that bad!

Madagascar Escape 2 Africa Film Review

Alex and co. want to return to New York, so with the help of King "Freaks!" Julian, they repair the crashed plane with a new bamboo engine! Needless to say it doesn't all turn out OK and they crash land in Africa, where Alex meets up with his long lost father and has to prove himself King of the Pride. A fairly safe, yet enjoyable follow-up to the original, with lots of laughs along the way. The penguins are back (but we don't much care for them), but also the monkeys and Marv!

Islands of Adventure

Today is Veteran's Day in the USA, but we're heading to Islands of Adventure to use our 2nd day of our 3 day pass! The park is again deserted and the people who paid 3 times the entry price for Fast Pass tickets are reaching the front of the queue at the same time as us in around 5 mins, and most of that is walking through the empty ropes! We ride Spider-man (which is still the best ride I've been on), Hulk coaster and Dueling Dragons coaster. We also note that a large area of the park has been roped off for Harry Potter World of Wizards area coming in 2010!

Barry made me do it!

Sea World and Shamu!

Today was Sea World day! Slight change in pace as there is only one roller coaster and the rest is shows (although 2 new rides open in 2009). We rode The Kraken first, which was one of the twistiest roller coasters I've been on. We then relaxed watching the Blue Horizon Dolphin Show, touched some dolphins in the touch pools, encountered sharks through glass tunnel and finally saw Shamu!

We're the ones on the back of the whales!

Cirque de Soleil "La Nouba" Theatre Review

A toss up between a great show mixed with some very average Saturday night BBC cabaret show. Some excellent acts included a group of girls doing acrobatics with yo-yos which was quite gob smacking, to some dodgy guy on a BMX riding it backwards. Unfortunately there were more bad acts than good, and this wasn't a cheap show!

Airboat Gator Spotting

Today we did something else we've never done before, an airboat ride through the rushes and back waters of Orlando looking for gators! We learned as we arrived that it was the first day of hunting season, as a boat along side drew up with a dead deer and 2 pigs in it - nice! We also learned that is was wise to wear sunglasses and keep your mouth shut while on the boat, as there we loads of bugs out there on the water! The ride itself lasted an hour and was a superb experience, we saw loads of wildlife (most of which we're sure the driver was aiming for), including several gators!

Nice warning, but guess you need it if you run into him!

Avoiding DUI

What to do after having a couple of vodkas at the Icebar to avoid a drunk driving ticket? Play mini golf next door!

From 80° to 27° in 1 step!

We found an Icebar on International Drive, so having been to the original in Sweden and the small freezer room in London, we had to go to the one in Orlando. So we went from 80° outside to 27°F inside, which is below freezing! Not sure it was an official Icebar as it was serving Grey Goose vodka, not Absolut, but we had a cocktail or two anyway ;-)

Breakfast Helicopter

One of the few things we haven't done in Orlando before is a helicopter trip, so this morning after breakfast we headed down to the 192 and hopped on board! The rest of the day we spent baking in the sun!

Kennedy Space Centre

Today it was not quite sunny enough for sunbathing, so we headed East to Kennedy Space Centre. I've never been and Barry hasn't been since 1990 and needless to say it had changed quite a bit! We saw the surface of the moon in IMAX 3D, toured the facility, saw the Shuttle Endeavour on the launch pad and went in a launch simulator! I was expecting some sort of museum, but the Space Centre was very well done and everything was very informative and entertaining!

Max Payne Film Review

This is one video game to movie conversion too far. Load of old poop, avoid like the plague!

Universal Studios

Today its a bit grey (gray) again, but still warm, so we decided to head to Universal Studios. We chose well as the place was pretty much deserted with no queues at all!! We went on a couple of new rides: Men in Black Alien Attack, which we missed last time as it was broken down, and also Krusty Land, which had replaced Back to the Future with a roller coaster ride in Krusty Land and around Springfield. We had done the whole park by 3pm it was so empty!

Ahhhh sunny Florida!

Well after our first grey (gray) and rainy day we had yesterday, which we spent shopping our socks off, it was nice to finally see some sun today! And boy was it sunny and hot!! In true faulty hotel style, like we had in Toronto, our pool is out of action, but luckily we can use next doors pool, which is very nice. We've just finished baking ourselves and we're off to Universal City Walk for our free dinner from Virgin Holidays!
